Wikipedia: A Tale of Two Articles
Wikipedia has had some trouble lately. Not only was a former assistant to Bobby Kennedy jacked about an anonymously created article naming him as a suspect in the JFK assassination, but former MTV VJ (that's Video Jockey for you kids, MTV used to show these things called "music videos" 24 hours a day) and Podcasting pioneer Adam Curry got busted changing the Podcasting article to favor his role in the field's development.
In response to the assassination article, Jimmy Wales - Wikipedia's founder and chief custodian - has barred anonymous users from creating new articles. Articles can now only be created by registered users, anons can still edit content. I think this is a good idea, because honestly; if you're not going to take the time and register at the site, there's no way you can be anywhere near serious about being an upstanding contributor. Wikipedia is a great resource, and it's great that it's open to the world community to create and edit. But, like all things, it does need a bit of oversight in certain areas. (Link -- via Slashdot)
